Sunday June 30 2019 Blog

On this day in 1932 my older sister, Imogene Alexander was born in Madison County, Tennessee.

Yesterday

Breakfast: Ken had Coffee, juice, yogurt, cereal & banana; Pat had a bagel & cream cheese instead of the cereal but otherwise the same menu.
Lunch: Half Pimento & Cheese Sandwich with chips, pie and ice cream
Supper: Cup of soup and half of a roast beef sandwich

While Pat watched Kelly & Ryan I loaded some more limbs on the truck and took it to the Reece burn pile. I went up to the house after I unloaded the truck to check on Nancy. She says she is doing good, she still has her arm in a cast.

I got back to the house at 1 o’clock and we ate lunch.

We watched some TV while we ate and some during the afternoon.

During the evening we worked on slides for Sunday School and got our teaching plan worked out.

We had a video chat with Scott and made plans to go to his place sometime and watch a movie on his theater system.

Today

  • Sunday School at 9:15
  • Coffee break at 10:30
  • Worship service at 11:00
  • Somewhere for lunch, maybe Old Spaghetti Factory
  • Home for an afternoon nap

We have security duty at church today during the worship service.

Weather

Our forecast for today is for partly sunny with a high of 81º

That’s all for June 30, keep in touch.

Lunch: Pimento & cheese sandwiches with lettuce
Supper: Tortilla Soup

Pat wants some carpets cleaned. The last time I tried out our Hoover Carpet Cleaner it didn’t work very well. We discussed renting a carpet cleaner and decided we couldn’t clean all our carpets in one renting. So, I got our carpet cleaner and decided to service it. The only problem was that the brushes didn’t rotate but just a little, not enough to clean them.

Here’s some pictures of part of the problem:

Dog hair around the brush holder
Hair and lint on the brushes

I started taking it apart and reached a point where I didn’t know how to open one of the panels. There were no instructions in the User Manual and an imprint on the bottom said, “An authorized service representative must go beyond this point.” or something like that. I thought I was stumped and then remembered to check for YouTube help. There was a video that showed me how to open the part that had me stumped. So, I continued with the process.

I had thought it would need a new belt but it doesn’t use a belt. ? The brushes are powered by the force of the air and water. I did find a shaft that the brushes turn on that had rust on it. I cleaned and greased the shaft, put it back together and Voila, it works! Now on to cleaning carpets, but not today.

That process took a LOT longer than it takes to tell it. I finished servicing the carpet cleaner and put away my tools.

We visited with Scott on the phone for a while, did some laundry, took a nap, watched some TV online shows and had our Facetime date with Scott to watch Jeopardy & Wheel.

Today

We’re going to spend some time preparing for teaching Sunday School tomorrow.

Since I didn’t work outside any yesterday, I may do some outside work today, there’s plenty to do.

Weather

We are to have clouds and sun today with a high of 79º

That’s all for June 29, keep in touch.

Happy Anniversary to Joe and Mollie.

Yesterday

Breakfast: Bagel & Cream Cheese, juice, coffee, yogurt
Lunch: Pizza and salad
Supper: Chinese Food at Wedding reception dinner at church

It rained off and on all day so Thursday turned out to be a relaxing day for me.

I studied on my Sunday School lesson for an hour or so during the morning and we watched Kelly and Ryan.

After lunch I drove April to the Post Office to mail a package, then we went to the grocery to get the things on our list. We got back home in time to see some of The HOOT before we had to leave to go to the reception at church.

When we got back home we watched the news and some more of Frankie Drake Mysteries. It is a Canadian show and has some of the characters from Murdoch Mysteries appearing in it from time to time.

Today

Pat is doing good with her sugar level, her glucose reading was 106 this morning in spite of eating a big piece of wedding cake last night. ?

Since it is wet outside again this morning I guess I won’t be doing much, if any, outside work.

We haven’t discussed what we are going to do today.

Weather

It’s going to be cool with showers today and some rain, high of 73º

That’s all for June 28, keep in touch.

NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY

Planning a trip, here is a chart of the gas tax in each state:

Yesterday

Breakfast: Ken-Cheerios, juice, coffee, yogurt; Pat 1/2 Bagel & cream cheese, juice, yogurt, coffee
Lunch: Pimento & cheese sandwiches.
Supper: Burger & fries at Shari’s (free pie day) We had peach pie

I didn’t get anything checked off my list as “done” but I worked pretty hard most of the day. I spent a lot of time working on the Holly Tree:

Cuttings
I found it was growing several good sized limbs from the trunk. This one is almost 3″ in diameter
I had to cut out a lot of branches to get to this one.

This will be on the back side from where we can see it so it won’t be seen unless someone walks around there. I’m afraid this side of the tree is going to be a little unsightly when I get done. I have let it go too long without being trimmed.

I broke my yard broom raking up the leaves and limbs:

I will try to repair it, I have an idea how I can but I may have to buy a new one.

After lunch April asked me to connect the blower to power so she could blow some more sweet gum balls to the street.

Hard working woman.

While she was doing that I went around front to trim some more on the rhododendron.

BTW, the lady came and got the rhody cutting I left out front for her.

We watched the news at 4 o’clock then drove to Corvallis to eat at Shari’s and get a free piece of pie. We ordered the Peach Perfection pie, it was yummy.

Then we went to church to attend Prayer Meeting at 7 o’clock.

When we got home a little after 9 we watched TV until bedtime.

Today

It is raining today so I won’t be doing much work outside. I may go to the shop and see what I can do to that yard broom. Maybe I can help April some in the house.

We have a wedding reception dinner to attend at church tonight. They were married elsewhere and have invited a few of us to celebrate with them.

Weather

We had a whopper of a thunderstorm on the way to Corvallis yesterday and it has been raining this morning. This high is supposed to be 64º today.

That’s all for June 27, keep in touch.

NATIONAL PARCHMENT DAY

Yesterday

Breakfast: 1/2 Bagel with cream cheese, juice, yogurt, coffee
Lunch: 1/2 Pimento & Cheese sandwich, 1/2 banana, peanut butter & Mayo Sandwich, Coke
Supper: 1/2 Grilled pimento & cheese sandwich, chips, Coke

After breakfast I got on some work clothes and cleaned the other door glass to the deck. That looks better.

Then I started cutting on the Holly bush and worked on that for a couple of hours. I’m going to have to empty my truck before I can put much morn on it. I told Pat I think the bush may be growing back as fast as I’m cutting because it is going so slow.

I’m making progress but not as fast as I want it to go. I’ve got plenty of time to work on it now though.

Scott came by on his way to the grocery and visited a few minutes. Mom gave him a container of her homemade pimento & cheese to take with him. He really likes it and it is good for him.

April asked me to hook up the leaf blower so she could blow some sweet gum balls down to the street. While she was doing that I trimmed on the pink rhododendron bush out front. I cut off a limb that was touching the ground and had taken root. I tossed it in the truck and then thought, “Someone may like to have that!” I posted a picture of it on Facebook Marketplace and a woman is coming by to pick it up this evening at 6 o’clock. I’m just giving it to her. We’ll be at church but I told her to just come and get it.

We watched TV until bedtime. We’re watching a Canadian show mystery series from the computer to Apple TV.

Today

I got up before April this morning and studied on my Sunday School materials until she got up.

I would like to work outside some but we need to go to the grocery and other things so I’m not sure if I will get to. I think if I can just do a little along I will get things in shape.

We have Prayer Meeting this evening.

Weather

We are supposed to have a high of 69º with sun and clouds and a couple of showers.

That’s all for June 26, keep in touch.
