August 4 National Days

Yesterday

Saturday: August 3, 2019
Breakfast: We shared a Jimmy Dean sausage biscuit with juice and coffee
Lunch: Pimento & cheese sandwiches, chips, iced tea
Supper: Sloppy Joe’s & chips

I worked on hauling those holly tree limbs to the truck until she got ready to go to the grocery. Then I worked outside until she asked me to get the deck ready for lunch. She said Scott was coming over to have lunch with us and wanted to eat on the deck. Here are the pictures:

Scott and Pat in the kitchen
Pimento & Cheese sandwiches with chips and iced tea
Baybie came along for a visit
Getting a drink of water, it was hot out there!
Coke Floats for dessert

Scott and I looked at his music composition software some and I tried to help him figure out how to import printed music into it but we didn’t get very far. ☹️ He’s going to have to call support.

When he left we went down for a nap.

I didn’t get back to the limb hauling, maybe I can finish that tomorrow.

We watched TV some and she paid some bills online. I loaded the dishwasher and ran it before going to bed.

We got this email from Nancy Jean:

Hey Aunt & Uncle:

With Katee coming, she thought Thursday would work for a family gathering, we’d love to host but not pizza, it will be hot, but bearable…

We can talk about a potluck menu this week.

Love, Nancy Jean

That should be fun, looking forward to it.

Today

  • Sunday School at 9:15
  • Coffee Break at 10:30
  • Preaching at 11:00
  • Somewhere for lunch after church
  • Home for a nap and some TV watching

Weather

It is currently 61º and clear, high is supposed to 92º with plenty of sunshine.

August 3 National Day Calendar

Yesterday

Friday: August 2, 2019
Breakfast: Sausage, scrambled eggs with cheese, toast and blackberry jam, juice and coffee
Lunch: Pizza and Coke
Supper: KFC Original Recipe with mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuit, and chocolate chip cookies

We went for a walk around the circle after we got through with breakfast and she watched Kelly & Ryan.

I put on my work clothes and attacked that holly tree again. I cut that lower limb off and carried it and some other debris and put it in the truck to haul off.

Now I need to haul a bunch more limbs to the truck and get the leaves up. I got this far and April called me to help her with questions about the loan, she was on the phone with an agent from the credit union that has our loan and they would only talk to me because my name was on the loan. We spent more than an hour getting her set up to submit payments online. I think its interesting that when I get on the phone they assume they have the correct person but I could have been anyone, they don’t know my voice. ??‍♂️

When it was time for supper we decided we wanted KFC so we drove the the restaurant and got two of their $5 Fill-ups. We hadn’t had KFC in a while, it is too salty and greasy for eating regularly.

After our nap we sat in the deck swing and enjoyed the breeze and comfortable temperature for about an hour and half (Just like Daisy and EK. – P.) then watched a couple shows on TVonline.

April’s glucose has been “on target” (under 110) two weeks in a row. ? She’s doing good.

She washed our sheets and we took baths before going to bed, I like sleeping on freshly washed sheets.

I got this email from Linda Kay:

I couldn’t find a blog today so I looked at yesterday. You have one there, but it didn’t come through my email. You have put in some work on that holly tree. Isn’t it amazing how growth just takes over! It’s looking good.
Good to see Katee is making a trip to see you.
Take care!

Today

I plan to haul some more of those limbs to the truck and get the leaves up.

We didn’t make it to the grocery yesterday so we have got to do that today, we’re out of some essentials. That will probably be our walk for the day. Scott is coming over for a late lunch and to sit out back with us like Grandmaw and Grandpaw.

We’ll get our Sunday School lesson plan finished this afternoon.

Weather

It is currently 69º with a high of 89º and mostly sunny for today.

That’s all for August 3, keep in touch.

Happy Birthday Nancy Reece

August 2 National Day Calendar

Yesterday

Breakfast: Ken-Coffee, juice, Cheerios, yogurt, and coffee; Pat-Bagel & cream cheese, yogurt, juice & coffee
Lunch: 1/2 pork sandwich, chips and 1/2 Coke
Supper: Squash, green beans, mashed potatoes, cornbread, iced tea, ice cream for dessert

I got out my leaf blower to remove the leaves and debris under the holly tree. It became apparent soon that I was going to have to do more. There were so many limbs (more like vines) under the tree that the leaf blower was only piling them up under the tree amongst all the limbs. So, I got out the hedge trimmer and chain saw and attacked ti with a vengeance. By the afternoon I had made good headway.

Now I have to make another trip to the Reece burn pile. There is still more stuff under the tree. Years of neglect have piled up. Here is how it looks now under the tree.

Under the holly tree

I needed to cut limbs away from the fence because I’ve got to do some repair on it at some point, it needs all new boards and maybe some posts and cross pieces.

Under the holly tree

I’m probably going to cut that bottom limb off. You can see where the leaves got hung in the vines.

Our ice maker quit dispensing cubes, it was turning and making noise but nothing was coming out. (Kinda like “The lights are on but no one is home”) So, I emptied the ice out of the tray and got the pieces out that that were clumped together and stopping it from dispensing. Now it is working fine.

We took a nap after lunch, April had been paying bills and said she kept going to sleep, I know I was going to sleep sitting next to her.

After the nap we watched the news and I looked into repairing the Hoover carpet cleaner we bought in 2004. It is leaking around the water/chemical supply tank. A check of the Hoover web site revealed they no longer make parts for it. Bummer! I’m not sure I can fix it. We’ll see. That machine cost us $300.

Pat and Scott watched some Jeopardy/Wheel together then we watched TV until bedtime.

We got this email from Katee, Sweet!:

Hi Family!

I am going to road trip to Oregon next week with a friend!  Our plan is to leave MT on Tuesday.  I will drop her in Bend and be in the valley on Wednesday probably.  I plan to head to Longview on Friday eve to see my brother and the girls then back to Bend on Sunday.  It will be short and sweet, but hope to get some hugs in!

See ya soon!

Today

I will work on the holly tree some more I think and load all the debris in my truck and maybe make a run out to the Reece Three Dog Farm.

We need to go to the grocery store.

Not sure what else we will do.

Weather

It is currently 74º with a high of 81º with clouds predicted

That’s all for August 2, keep in touch.

August 1 National Day Calendar

Yesterday

Some of the things I did yesterday:

  • Tightened the hose connector on the front rose garden soaker hose, it was leaking
  • Got out the hedge trimmers and cut the dead flower heads off of the clematis vines by the deck
  • Sharpened the pizza cutter blade
  • Took her to deliver food to a family, the wife is hurt and can’t cook
  • Went to Prayer Meeting/Bible Study

April cooked dinner for a friend who fell and broke her dominant wrist and had to have surgery. She also paid some more bills during the day.

We watched TV while we ate after prayer meeting.

I didn’t get around to the leaves under the holly tree but I see they are still there. ?

I got these emails from family:

hey, hope you are enjoying being home more. There is always something that needs doing.
Our neighbor Dr. Matthews has parkinson and is frail. They are moving to SC and had a sale. Dwight and I went. He bought a desk and Chair the doc had used in his office.  I bought some purses and throw pillows. Dwight had to replace a wheel on the chair so he bought a whole set. He amazes me fixing stuff. It looks great.
We moved his black glass desk out to go in a trailer. We need another table for the computer sometime.
Today he is spraying round up. He didn’t want me to help since I cough about everything.
Brooke starts 7th grade this Friday.
Terri and Chrystal are still at the barn. Their apartment water had to be replaced. It had set empty 8 months and pipes had burst. They moved furniture before July 1st. Still come to barn to sleep. Maybe it will be soon. David gave the chickens to a farmer friend. It made Terri mad.  I didn’t want to have to see about them and David didn’t either. Write more later.
