We got to church before 9 o’clock and went to Sunday School. We only had 7 in the class but there was good participation.
After Sunday School we went to the Welcome Center for coffee and treats.
At the end of the service our pastor announced his retirement for October 15. He and Carol are purchasing a house in Glen Eden Beach, Oregon. There’s been some sadness in our household since then. (After church, I looked at him and said, “You knew, didn’t you?” He answered, “Yes. It was announced at deacon’s meeting.” I said, “And you didn’t tell me.” He replied, “I wanted you to be happy for a few more days.” That is one of the sweetest things he’s ever said to me. P.)
After church we ate lunch at Elmer’s Restaurant with friends.
We took Marge home and then came home for a nap.
We had coffee in the swing when we got up then went in the house to watch TV. Pat thought watching TV would help her stop crying, it did. We got the trash and recycling down to the street to be picked up this morning.
We spent time on our computers and watching TV for the evening.
Today
The only things I know we will be doing today are watching TV and eating. We probably will do something else but we haven’t talked about doing anything. I have work I can do outside for sure.
Weather
It is currently 61º with a high of 82º and sun predicted.
Scott came over about 2 o’clock to have a late lunch with us. He brought Baybie along to play in the yard. She was mostly interested in being with her humans and what we were eating ?, we don’t have any toys in our yard.
Lunch on the DeckZucchini Casserole, veggies & dip, Mexican Cornbread, tea
We had some Pumpkin Pie with Cool Whip on it for dessert. Scott took some pie and what was left of the casserole with him to have later.
While we were sitting there April saw a sharp screw sticking up out of one of the deck boards. When I turned the boards over last year some of the screws broke off and this was one of them. It was sticking up about 1/4″. I got a hammer and smoothed it out. We don’t want anyone stepping on that with bare feet! ?
We drove the truck to his place where he and I unloaded the firewood in his yard for him to organize later. April stayed in the truck and studied more her Sunday School materials.
I had ordered a “grab” bar to go on the partition beside the two steps from the Den to the Kitchen where Pat fell last year. It came yesterday so I installed it when we got back from Scott’s place.
Grab Bar
She has had more than one fall in the area of those steps, this will help, maybe. Scott has been wanting us to have this for a few years.
We took a nap from 5:00 to 6:00. When we got up for our nap we got our Sunday School materials organized for teaching today. I made some slides she wanted and we put notes on our teaching plans of when to use them.
We watched TV until bedtime.

Scott let us know he wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be coming for lunch and to load any wood. ☹️ So, I loaded 3 wheelbarrows of wood in the truck to deliver to him today.
We spent some time in the swing after lunch and I could see dead limbs hanging down beneath the Japanese Maple bush, so when we were through swinging I got the hedge clippers to cut them off. After cutting several of them I realized some of the limbs were too big for the hedge trimmers so I got the limb loppers and cut some of the bigger ones. Yep, there were some even too big for the loppers and I had to get the chain saw. What I thought was going to be a few minutes turned into about an hour of crawling around on my knees and moving about the bush to get rid of the dead stuff. By the time I got the limbs picked up and in a can and my tools put away I was needing a nap. ?
We did take a nap and then I got out the floor cleaner and cleaned spots and dirt on the Den floor and Kitchen floor. Its amazing how quick it gets dirty.
We watched TV and were on our computers some during the evening.
April spent a lot of time in the kitchen preparing the casserole and cornbread, it was delicious.
A kind neighbor left a bag of cherries in the space between our door and storm door.
It was a fairly productive day.
Today
We are planning to have a late lunch with Scott this afternoon. The casserole was to feed us and him yesterday so he will get some today. Then we will deliver the wood to his place.
We need to get our Sunday School teaching plan together sometime today.
Not sure what else is on the agenda.
Weather
It is currently 64º and mostly sunny, high of 78º and pleasant for today.
It was a day of opportunity to learn. When I went out the front door the neighbor kid down the street said, “Hey Ken, last night the lights were on in your car. I came to the door but no one answered. Your battery may be down.”
Sure enough, the battery was down in the Toyota. Somehow I had turned the interior lights on with the dashboard dimmer wheel and ran it down. The funny thing was when we were ready to get out of the car April had asked what that light was shining on her feet. I thought it was just from the door being open so I didn’t pay attention. The battery had enough current left to unlock the door and shine the interior lights but not enough to start the car.
I had read in the owners manual about the special place to jump start it if we needed to so I told April to come and watch so she would know what to do. You have to open the fuse box cover and a small red cover inside to clamp the jumper cables on a special connector. It doesn’t have a battery post to clamp to and as a matter of fact I don’t have a clue where the battery is. It is not visible under the hood.
So, as I was trying to get the cover off the fuse box I dropped my truck keys into the abyss of wires and pipes around the motor. We both looked for the keys and couldn’t see them, even with a good light. We probably wasted 30 minutes trying to find the keys. Finally I went and got an extra truck key and moved the truck where I could attach the jumper cables.By this time I had sent April back in the house to get out of the sun.
I hooked the jumper cables between the two vehicles and started the engine of the truck. After a while I tried to start the car and it still wouldn’t start. I remembered the instructions said to rev up the vehicle supplying the current so it would charge the battery. I did that for a while and it started after a bit.
We decided to drive it some to charge up the battery. We went over to the interstate and drove down to Hwy 34 and back home on Columbus. The battery was charged up good by then.
We went in and had some lunch and afterward I decided to go back and see if the keys may have moved around where I could see them. Finally I spotted the shaft of the truck key sticking out from under one of the many parts under the hood of a Toyota Prius. I tried needle nose pliers but couldn’t get a hold on it. So, I took the pliers and cut a piece of wire long enough to reach them, made a hook on the end of it and after several tries was able to get the hook in the key ring and got them out. I learned three things: 1) make sure the interior lights are off, 2) never have keys in your hand when opening the fuse box and 3) listen to Pat when she thinks something is wrong. ? Now if I can just remember what Iearned.
The rest of our day wasn’t near as eventful as that. We relaxed in the Bowflex and April folded some clean clothes. I put my clean clothes in the proper places when she was done. Thanks, babe for the clean clothes, I appreciate it.
She made a delicious pumpkin pie and gave me some of it with whipped cream on top. Yum!
Pat and Scott watched their game shows together.
Today
Scott said last night he would like to haul some of the wood I have to his house for burning in his fire pit. We still have some wood I got from Jon and Jean in 2005. I can’t burn it because April is so allergic to smoke. So, he is coming for lunch and then we will haul some wood for him.
We haven’t talked about what else we might do. We need to walk some before it gets too hot.
Weather
It is currently 63º and partly sunny with a high of 81º and mostly sunny.
I worked on the carpet cleaning machine and got it to work, Gorilla Glue is amazing! I tested it by cleaning some spots on the Den floor and it got them up even without chemicals. Now on to cleaning the rest of the floors.
You know how you just had something in your hand and suddenly its gone and you can’t find it anywhere? That happened to us yesterday. As I was coming through the kitchen April asked me to bring her the checkbooks. I only heard checkbook so I took our joint account checkbook and gave it to her. Sometime later she asked where her Mary Kay checkbook was so I went and got it out of her purse and laid it on the recliner beside her. She apparently didn’t see me lay it there and asked where it was. I told her I laid it right beside her. Thus began the search. We felt around in all the crevasses of the recliner and looked under where we both were sitting and it was not to be found. She scooted the recliner out from the wall and I got a light and looked under it. Finally we turned the recliner over and searched, still not to be seen. ? While we had the recliner out from the wall she swept up the popcorn and various other debris that got under there since the last time it was scooted out. She found a variety of napkins and tissue that had slid down between the arm and the seat but no checkbook. After we got the recliner back in place she sat down and felt beside the seat again, VOILA! She found it! All that took at least 30 minutes and maybe longer. Well, at least we got the floor under there swept. ?
I’m needing another cup of coffee, BRB…
We had a video chat with Scott during the afternoon and went to Prayer Meeting at 6 o’clock. At 7:15 we had a meeting with everyone who is going on the trip with us in September. We didn’t get home until nine.
Our short evening was spent watching Jeopardy & wheel she had recorded and on the computer.
Today
Not sure what we are going to do today.
Weather
It is currently 60º and sunny with a high of 84º and mostly sunny predicted. There is a full moon tonight.
